Substitute Teacher

The School of Arts and Sciences on Thomasville Road (SAST) uses an internal list of substitute teachers that is separate from the Leon County Schools substitute list. All substitute teachers must have an approved background check done through Leon County Schools prior to working at SAST. If you would like to be added to the SAST substitute teacher list please provide a resume or cover letter by mail, hand delivery, or email to sasoffice@leonschools.net. Include your experience, class preferences, and the hours and days of your availability.

The typical school day is from 8:45 am – 3:45 pm. Pay is $14.00 per hour for approximately 7 hours per day, depending on the need.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEACHER

Primary responsibilities of Lead Teacher at the School of Arts and Sciences on Thomasville Rd:
• Implement and support instruction and assessment practices for a diverse group of students that reflect the Florida Standards and the principles of our Charter
• Establish a strong working partnership with Middle School team and effectively utilize these relationships to develop an exceptional learning environment for students
• Engage in continuous professional development and shared learning with other professional staff
• Work collaboratively with a diverse group of school colleagues, parents, community members and others to support and implement the goals of the school
• Actively participate in faculty, grade level team and other school related meetings/events
• Demonstrate a positive attitude
• Uphold professional duties including attendance, parent communication and deadlines
• Demonstrate sound classroom management and Conscious Discipline skills
• Identify at-risk students and collaborate with the MTSS team to implement interventions and monitor progress
• Utilize sound budgeting in determining classroom and grade level team expenses
• Ability to plan and execute rigorous, teacher-created, hands-on lessons
• Other duties as assigned

REPORTS TO
• MS Team Lead, and Principal

REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
• Strong classroom management
• Familiarity with the Florida Standards

PREFERRED
Current Florida Teaching Certificate or Statement of Eligibility (in field)
Experience working with Middle School aged students
Experience with the MTSS process

The School of Arts and Sciences is seeking applications for a full-time Associate Teacher to work with a Lead Teacher in a multi-aged elementary classroom (2nd and 3rd graders) from Jan 4th until Mid April, 2024

K-3 Reading Interventionist

The School of Arts and Sciences on Thomasville Road is seeking applications for a full-time Reading Intervention Teacher. An ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:** preference given to internal applicants, or those with experience working at SAS **

  • Trained, or willing to be trained, in the Orton Gillingham method of literacy instruction by a recognized training organization
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Science of Reading – the five components of reading and the impact of explicit, systematic, multisensory reading instruction
  • At least two years of Structured Literacy instruction in whole group and small group settings
  • Ability to assess student need through diagnostic screenings and assessments
  • Ability to write diagnostic, prescriptive lesson plans for small group instruction
  • Demonstrate understanding of the MTSS framework for classroom learning and intervention instruction
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Evidence of working knowledge with technology
  • Proven experience establishing and monitoring in class intervention groups
  • Proven experience in collecting and interpreting student data for instructional planning

Responsibilities include the following:

Attend Problem Solving Team Meetings as needed

Attend RTI & Data Chat meetings

Attend parent conferences as needed

Plan and prepare materials to present at staff meeting as needed

For Students: Plan & deliver Tier 3 interventions in small group or 1:1Plan & deliver Tier 2 interventions as needed

Track student data for interventions

Progress monitoring for students in Tier 3 interventions

Complete appropriate sections of RTI file and assist in the referral process as needed

For Teachers: Assist in reviewing data and identifying students who need interventions

Assist in planning Tier 2 interventions

Provide resources and information on new & different learning strategies

Provide guidance and support in completing the RTI process
