The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), contracts with Tomahawk Transportation to provide bus transportation throughout Leon County as a courtesy to SAS families.

Tomahawk has four buses that run AM and PM routes. SAS bus stops are located at convenient public places. The convenient public places are satellite bus stops. Since we have 4 buses that serve the entire county, and 2 schools, the satellite stops allow us to pick up more children at one stop. This reduces the amount of time students are on the bus each day. Parents or approved guardians must meet the bus at the bus stop in the morning and the afternoon. Children may not be left unattended.

buses

The current routes posted for the 2022-23 school year will run for at least 10 school days. After 10 days of school Tomahawk will evaluate the effectiveness of the routes and make changes as necessary. Families can make a request to Tomahawk that a stop be added. Factors that are considered when adding a stop are: ability to work into an existing route, amount of students served, stop safety, public space with adequate parking for families and is large enough to accommodate the school bus. Email Tomahawk Transportation at info@tomahawkbuses.com to make a request.

Children riding the bus must have completed an online bus registration form. Students without complete documentation may not ride the bus. Please read the Code of Conduct and Parent Agreement BEFORE continuing.

Bus transportation is provided throughout Leon County as a courtesy to The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) families. Students who live two miles or more from the school may ride the bus.

I understand the following student responsibilities:

  1. Students must follow all instructions and requests provided by the bus driver.
  2. Students must follow all bus safety procedures.
  3. Students must board and exit the bus properly and safely. Students must not go under the bus for any reason.
  4. Students must take their assigned seats, if applicable, and remain in their seats. The bus driver reserves the right to move a student’s seat if that student is acting in a disruptive manner. Students will keep the aisles clear and keep their entire body inside the bus.
  5. There will be absolutely no tampering with bus equipment, doors, windows, gears, etc. at any time—especially when waiting for departure.
  6. Students will keep their hands off others.
  7. Students must be polite and courteous to one another. Bullying will not be tolerated (verbal, physical, cyber, etc.). Students shall talk quietly, and not use vulgar or abusive language.
  8. The following behavior will not be tolerated:
    1. Throwing objects outside/inside the bus.
    2. Eating any food or gum chewing.
    3. Fighting, tripping, shoving, cursing, yelling or shouting.
  9. Students are allowed to bring bottled water, which must be kept in their bag. No other types of drinks are allowed.
  10. Students must depart the bus at their designated bus stop unless a note is signed by parent/guardian, has been turned into their respective School’s administration (72 hours of notice is required).
  11. Students are prohibited from carrying weapons, tobacco, alcohol, drugs or anything else prohibited by school on the bus. Students, who violate this rule, may be reported to the Police department.
  12. Students must follow all student codes of conduct as described in the applicable Student Handbook.
  13. Student Liability: Students who violate policies and rules of conduct may be denied bus-riding privileges. Students who harm people or damage any school property may be suspended or expelled from school. Students may also be reported to the Police Department.
  14. Parent Liability: Students and bus riders who damage community property will be held liable for those damages, according to state/tribal law. In the case of minor children, their parents/guardians are liable. Parents/guardians may be billed for the cost of damage.
  15. The student is required to attend school on the days of bus suspension. Absences during bus suspension are not excused absences. The parent must make all necessary arrangements to make sure that the student attends school.
  16. When a student chooses to deviate from appropriate behavior, the steps for consequences will be as follows:
    1. First Infraction: Depending on the severity of the behavior, the 1st report may result in immediate bus suspension (as determined by the school administration). When consecutive reports are received within 45 school days, the following actions will be taken:
    2. Second Infraction: The student will be suspended from bus privileges for two (2) school days.
    3. Third Infraction: The student will be suspended from bus privileges for (5) five school days.
    4. Fourth Infraction: The student will be suspended at least twenty (20) school days (approximately one month) or the remainder of the semester, whichever is longer.

I will acknowledge that I have read and explained these responsibilities to my student(s), and agree to these stipulations, by clicking the box on the last screen of the online bus registration form.

SAS Bus Transportation Parent Agreement 2023-24

I understand the following parent responsibilities:

  1. Buses will meet students and their parents (or designee) at centralized stops to receive transportation to and from school. Some stops are located at or near large retail establishments with frequent and sometimes congested vehicle traffic. Parents must pre-select the stop they wish to use for transportation; stops may not be changed without prior approval (72 hours of notice is required).
  2. To ensure the safety of my child(ren) at the pre-selected bus stop, I (or my designee) will wait with my child(ren) until the bus arrives in the morning, and I (or my designee) will be at the pre-selected bus stop at minimum 10 minutes prior to stop time in the afternoon to meet my child(ren) returning from school. Parents are always responsible and accountable for the conduct and safety of their students prior to the arrival and after the departure of the school bus at the assigned school bus stop.
  3. If I (or my designee) am not at the pre-selected bus stop in the afternoon, my child may not be dropped off at the discretion of the school bus driver. I may attempt to catch the bus at a later stop to pick up my child; however, I understand that it is not the bus driver’s responsibility to locate me, and the bus driver is not available by phone. If I do not manage to catch the bus, I will meet the bus at the bus yard at the end of the route. Students will not be returned to the school or their respective stops.
  4. Students will only be allowed to ride their assigned bus unless prior approval is given. Students will not be allowed to leave the bus at any stop other than their assigned pre-selected stop, except as allowed in paragraph 1.
  5. If I wish for my student to walk home from their assigned stop I will fill out a walker waiver with my respective School (72 hours of notice is required).
  6. To acquire approval for a person other than myself to pick up my child(ren) from the bus stop, I will include those persons on the bus registration form or send an email to the front office of my child’s school.
  7. My child(ren) may not bring another student on the bus to come home with them unless that child is also signed up to ride the bus, and with written parent permission (72 hours of notice is required).
  8. I acknowledge receipt of both the Parent & Student Agreement for using school buses, and I agree that my child(ren) will comply with this Agreement.

I will acknowledge that I have read and understand my responsibilities, and agree to these stipulations, by clicking the box on the last screen of the online bus registration form.
